Time Strategies

Image
I read a couple of the articles. Last semester all of my classes were online and we're all pre recorded lectures so technically I didn't have to do anything until the test for most of my classes. This taught me scheduling and not procrastinating. Basically making my own schedule helped me be a more organized and schedule oriented person. This semester I bought a planner that I will be using because having a actual planner where I can mark out when I'm done with the activity makes it easy to know when I've missed something.  The Important Habit of Just Starting  https://lifehacker.com/the-important-habit-of-just-starting-1771016698 https://www.fulcrumlabs.ai/blog/procrastination/

Technology

A lot of these technology tools I've already used. I went to a school that required us to have a laptop since 7th grade so I've always been used to a computer. Having all classes online was definitely a transition but I've gotten adjusted to it. Having classes like this where its very though out and organized has eased the transition. http://smarterware.org/2016/09/5-reasons-midst-technological-golden-age/

Assignment Impressions

Image
The Wikipedia Trails should be an interesting learning assignment to do every week. The self grading of this class is unlike any other class I've taken and am looking forward to this. This class is clearly very well organized and will be easy to navigate which is what I'm most excited about. Most online classes are very difficult to use. All extra credit opportunities grab my attention because I always try and do all extra credit opportunities, you never know if you'll need those extra points.   https://blog.coursify.me/en/how-to-create-online-classes/

Growth Mindset

Professor Carol Dweck’s video is fascinating because it has so much truth to it. She begins by speaking of younger children, but her findings relate to people of all ages. We are all students beyond school and any person should relate to the difference in easy vs. difficult and the way challenges are perceived. The not yet perspective becoming a comfort zone is a work in progress for me. Interestingly, at OU I expected to be mentally taxed by my classes with a large amount of memorization, but I have found that the classes that push me the most have been about social problems. Last semester I learned a lot about organic chemistry, but the book I read in a pop culture class about Americans’ obsession with consuming cow flesh and the way it has affected our environment and lower income populations challenged me in a new way. It is natural to want to succeed and build confidence, but Dweck understands that it takes a “not yet” experience to gain true knowledge and actually show growth. I

Introduction to Joshua the Biology major

Image
My name is Joshua Cohlmia and I was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Being raised here made it an easy choice to continue my education at the University of Oklahoma. My major is Biology/Pre-Dental. The most interesting part of my major is that I've taken lots of difficult science classes but have never once learned about teeth. It's weird taking all these classes that don't apply directly yo my job in the future. The most interesting class I took last semester was molecular biology. Having a pandemic while taking these science classes has been awesome (for class not in everyday life) because a lot of teachers have been using Covid-19 as an example and I've gotten to learn so much about it. Last semester I finally reached my goal of achieving a 4.0 which I had never done before. My favorite movie is Die Hard because it ties my two favorite things together, Christmas and action. My favorite book is the Harry Potter series because it was the first series of book

Storybook Favorites

1. Epic Cooking  https://sites.google.com/view/epic-cooking/home     My first choice was Epic Cooking. This Storybook stood out to me because the author relates every recipe to an Indian mythology story. The title immediately let me know that we would be cooking. This storybook was arranged perfectly because before I could see the recipes you had to read the story above the recipe. Each story was a letter to Camille (the person who was cooking) from the Indian mythological characters. Camille clearly put lots of time into this storybook because she did all the cooking her self and took a picture of each step along the way. Overall, I loved the design and simplicity of this Storybook and thought this was one of the best out of all.  2. Karma: The Good Place  https://sites.google.com/view/goodplacekarma/home     My second choice stood out to me because I had just watched The Good Place on Netflix this past summer. The title just like the show is a trick, because you think you're in t

My Favorite Place - Orlando, Florida

Going to these parks is always a reminder of childhood and has a way of making us all feel young again. As we've gotten older we've gotten to do new things, for example this past year I turned 21 years old. I am the youngest sibling but it meant we all got to drink the world where you get to try a drink from each country!  We also have started to add Universal to our trip every year mainly because of Harry Potter World which was added recently. My whole family has always loved that series and now that it's a full park there we always have to go there as well.
